Satoshi Nakamoto launched $BTC and all #cryptocurrency with the rallying cry: "A coin is a unit of work."
I'll go one step further: a coin measures value.
Consequently, a coin's price adjusts to its perceived value.
Coins that are tied to a real, underlying value are performant, I've noticed. That's why tombstoning is working for me as an investment: these coins are tied to the protocol token, a token of worth to many people.
Coins that tank are usually not tied to anything. YMMV
