The geophf index (γ)

Today, class, we are going to develop the geophf-index (γ), verify it (... against itself #sophistry), then apply it.

"What is geophf-index used for?!?" you ask, askingly.

Patience, my young apprentice, and it shall all be revealed, in time.

This is a "Math is useful"-thread.

So, what's the problem? Neither @vfat0 nor @DefiKingdoms are reporting $CRYSTAL-emissions on https://vfat.tools/dfk/crystalvale/ #dafudqe?

"Oh, no! How will we know which LP emits the most $CRYSTAL per $100?" you cry, then add: "geophf, save us!"

I won't save you.

*lamentations of women

MATH WILL SAVE YOU!

*and there was much rejoicing

Okay, so we don't have $CRYSTAL emissions. Let's look at what we do have.

We hava:

  • dis

and a

  • dat

and a

  • 'nother thingie

or, we have these data ('thingies' 'data' whatevs):

  • TVL
  • Emission rate

Will that tell us $CRYSTAL emission / $100 / week?

LET'S FIND OUT! 😤

(Again) The problem is this:

We have TVL and emission rate ($CRYSTAL / second)

but we WANT to know

$CRYSTAL emission per $100 (or whatever) per week, that is to say, we want a fair comparison of emissions ACROSS LPs, that is (again): regardless of TVL.

WAT DO?

  • (does laundry)
  • (goes off for a walk)

Wat. A mathematician needs to do chores, too. You figure out γ whilst I'm doing da chores.

* returns from chores

Let's solve for the easy one: emissions per week.

For $CRYSTAL - $AVAX, we have 0.75 $CRYSTAL / sec

→ 60 sec / min * 0.75 $CRYSTAL / sec = 45 $CRYSTAL / min
→ 60 min / hr * 45 $CRYSTAL / min = 2700 $CRYSTAL / hr
→ 24 hr / day * 2700 $CRYSTAL / hr = 64800 $CRYSTAL / day

Which brings us to

→ 7 days / wk * 64800 $CRYSTAL / day =

  • 453,600 $CRYSTAL / wk emit from $CRYSTAL - $AVAX LP.

Using the same algorithm we get:

  • 4,838,400 $CRYSTAL / wk emit from $xJEWEL - $JEWEL LP.

So $xJEWEL - $JEWEL LP is 10x mo' bettah?

Actually, we don't know that yet.

WHY don't we know that yet?

Because we're comparing apples to kumquats. The two LPs have very different TVL..'ds. TLVs? TLV'd?

Whatevs.

So, we have to magically convert both apples and kumquats into KĀKĒ! 'cuz errybody loves cake!

ONE APPLE-KUMQUAT KĀKĒ, COMIN' RIGHT UP!

Guy with the tie
at Suny Sushi, eat'n Sushi
... even better than Apple-kumquat cake,
if you can imagine that.

HOW do we turn apples and kumquats into KĀKĒ?
HOW do we may two different TLV'd LPs comparable?

These, and many other questions, man has pondered for millennia.

BUT I AM NO MAN! I AM THE el geophf! 😤

... wait 🤔... um ... 😅

To turn apples and kumquats into KĀKĒ is easy, flour, sugar, eggs, bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or so, you're done!

To unitize LPs of disparate TVL'd, we'll be following the EXACT SAME PROCESS!

Let's watch.

Okay, for each LP, we have $CRYSTAL / wk (above) and we have TVL. So we need $CRYSTAL / wk / $100, to linearize* the LPs, and stuff.

That way we can then compare LP to LP, units to units.

*linearize, v.: to make them comparable, and stuff**
**stuff, n: a technical term.

Okay, let's do that.

$CRYSTAL - $AVAX LP emits 453,600 $CRYSTAL / wk
$CRYSTAL - $AVAX LP TVL: $14,678,832

so:

κ = $CRYSTAL - $AVAX LP = 0.0309 $CRYSTAL / wk / TVL

Did you know, by the way, that the Greek word for $CRYSTAL is κρύσταλλο?

EVERYTHING COMES FROM THE GREEK! 😤

So, then, to get to the LP's γ (geophf index), we replace TVL with $100. How?

κ * TVL / $100 = γ

Easy-peasy! So:

κ = 0.0309 $CRYSTAL / wk / TVL
→ γ = κ * TVL / $100
→ γ = 0.0309 $CRYSTAL / wk / TVL * $14,678,832 / $100
→ γ = 4536 $CRYSTAL / wk / $100

Which is completely wrong...

But is it COMPLETELY wrong or MOSTLY wrong?

COMPLETELY wrong, we can only do one thing: go through γ's pockets and look for loose change.

But MOSTLY wrong we can work with!*
